Prison Ministry

Prison Ministry

Vision Statement:

Our vision is to help facilitate the successful reentry of men, women, boys, and girls, returning from correctional facilities back into our communities as productive members of society.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to help our fellow neighbors who are incarcerated through prayer, words of encouragement, visitation, necessities, and spiritual growth by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Scriptural Foundation:

“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, free the captives from prison and release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.” Isaiah 42: 6, 7

Confidentiality:

All information obtained, discussed, and shared remains confidential. Ministry members are required to sign a Confidentiality Statement.

Ministering to Inmates:

The Prison Ministry ministers to approximately 75 inmates as indicated below:

  • Write and send letters, cards, and books each month.

  • Respond to letters to show love, support, and encouragement and to maintain community connection. All incoming letters from inmates are screened by the Ministry Coordinator.

  • Make local and long distant visitation within a 100-mile radius.

  • Support releasees with clothing, transportation, food, etc.

Community Network:

The Prison Ministry networks with other faith-based, non-profit, and County organizations for resources, information and opportunities that are available to help returning citizens.

Annual Toy Drive:

During the Christmas holiday season, the Prison Ministry hosts an annual Toy Drive for children with incarcerated parent or parents.

Training Guidelines:

  • All new Prison Ministry members are trained on what to say and what not to say when writing letters or during visitation.

  • The Prison Ministry hosts an Annual Training Seminar for the Prince Georges County Correctional Facility called Good News Jail & Prison Ministry. With this training we learn how to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a very unique way and in a challenging environment.

Ministry Meetings:

The Prison Ministry meets every 3rd Thursday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
